Focus
The BIR Journal of Community Engagement (BIR-JCE) focuses on the theory, practice, and impact of scholarly engagement between higher education institutions (HEIs), researchers, and the wider community. It aims to bridge the gap between academic knowledge production and real-world societal challenges, with a particular emphasis on rigorous, ethical, and reciprocal partnership models.
Scope
The journal welcomes original research articles, best practice case studies, methodological critiques, and reflective essays that cover the full spectrum of community engagement. The scope is inherently multidisciplinary and includes, but is not limited to, the following areas:
1. Models and Methodologies of Engagement

Action Research and Participatory Approaches: Studies detailing community-based participatory research (CBPR), participatory action research (PAR), and other co-creation methods.

Service-Learning and Experiential Education: Research on the effectiveness, design, and assessment of service-learning programs across different academic disciplines.

Reciprocity and Partnership Building: Analysis of frameworks for establishing equitable, sustainable, and mutually beneficial relationships between universities and community partners.
